THE HISTORY
"The Linden Project" is born!
In 2015, CSA Lincoln's PTO created a survey for students, parents, and teachers to better understand the needs for the school's campus. Based on the results, it was decided that the playground needed to be improved. Research was done on improving existing play structures and BCSC asked Hitchcock Design Group to help develop an overall master plan for the site, specifically focusing on the playground.
Why call it "The Linden Project"?
In our research of the history of the CSA Lincoln Elementary building, an old editorial article from the October 19, 1966 edition of The Evening Republican was found that discusses how the architect, Gunnar Birkerts, had called for Linden trees in his original design. The Linden trees were a fairly large budget item, but many supporters, including school board members and administration rallied and came along side the architect to help him achieve his vision. Now 50 years later; parents, school administration, BCSC, and the community are coming together to support the renovation of the CSA Lincoln Elementary school grounds with a design that reinvents our space while still paying homage to the original architects' vision. It seemed only fitting to give a nod to our past as we make our own history on these same grounds.
